Training and Scholarships
Senegalese officials travelled to Australia in 2011 to participate in short courses in the areas of mining and agriculture under the Australia Awards scheme, and more will participate in the coming years.
Development Cooperation
Australia’s Commonwealth Scientific and Industrial Research Organization (CSIRO) has entered into a four-year, AUD16 million partnership with the West and Central African Council for Agricultural Research and Development (WECARD), based in Dakar, to conduct research into improving food security. This will deliver benefits to Senegal and to other West and Central African member states.
Australian Investment
Australian companies operating in Senegal include Mineral Deposits Limited (currently operating Senegal’s only producing gold mine at Sabodala, in the east of the country), First Australian Resources (oil and gas) and Bassari Resources Limited (gold).
